What makes a Himalayan trek an unforgettable experience?
The right choice of the trek? The region? A good preparation? A good physical condition? Yes. Yes. Yes and yes.
But there is also one thing that should not be underestimated: The right choice of trekking company.
Keep in mind that you´ll spend 7 to 21 days with a guide and a porter. This can be a long time if the chemistry is not matching. We were lucky. To be precise, we were extremely lucky in many ways with our choice: Tembas Nepaltrek.
Since we are from Germany we of course took advantage of the fact that Sabine and Temba speak German. Especially when you do such a tour for the first time, there are many questions that want to be answered. So we met in our hotel in Kathmandu the day after our arrival and spoke about everything that was on our mind.
We also met our guide Mingmar who appeared very young and shy. Temba and Sabine did most of the talking and especially Temba gave us a good view on his ultimate trekking experience and his attitude towards organized tourist treks. There was also a package handed on to us with a detailed description of the trek, permissions, maps etc. We talked about our selected trip, the trek to Annapurna base camp and Poonhill and we felt that everything is in good hands. There was nothing we had to take care of except sending passport pictures in advance.
The next day Mingmar picked us up with a taxi to take us to the bus station, the beginning of our trip. He still was very shy but he really took perfectly care of us. He was always there for us and seemed to read our minds. The selected bus service seemed to be one of the better ones, but that’s a hard thing to judge.
Arriving in Pokhara we had one day to rest and to get a feeling of the lake village. Our hotel "Lakeview resort" was also a good choice.
Unfortunately Birgit became sick so we were unable to leave the next day. Mingmar immediately showed us where we can save time during the trip, so that we neither had to extend the trip nor miss or cut anything. After a 36hrs sleep Brigit recovered and we could start the following day. We met our porter (with a name I will never remember (badressin??)) who never said a word except Namaste but who was a wonderful character with a lot of warm-heartedness besides his amazing strength.
And then we were in! 12 days with joy and pain, lots of hot lemon, headaches and moments of extreme enthusiasm. Unbelievable views like never before, cold nights and hot showers. Through real rural villages, all kinds of forests, over hundreds of suspension bridges, up and down trillions of handmade steps. Since I´m German I always compared the day trips that were chosen by Tembas Nepaltrek with the ones described in lonely planet. I must admit that we felt much more comfortable with Temba’s selection. The estimated times fit perfectly to our needs. The lonely planet recco would have been too tough for us some of the days. Mingmar was the perfect guide for us. He left us enough space when we felt like it. He knew the trek by heart. He took good care of us and always double checked if everything was ok with us. We spent some long hours playing cards, laughing or talking nonsense. "Friend" is a word that should be used with care, but these 12 days glued us somehow together and we learned a lot about each other.
To sum it up.
The Annapurna base camp trek with the Poonhill extension was THAT unforgettable experience.
And we are very grateful to TEMBAS NEPALTREK TEAM for all the energy, hospitality and deep friendliness that we received all the time. We say THANK YOU especially to MINGMAR and BADRESSING??? and we hope to see you someday soon for the MUSTANG trek! |

Dear Sabine, dear Temba, thanks you very much for the excellent organization of our project tour. Sometimes it was certainly not easy with us. I will recommend you and I am sure I will be your guest again!
Sincere greetings!

This was my fourth Nepal tour, however my first with "Tembas Nepal Trek ". It was a project tour of DNH (German-Nepalese Help Association, Stuttgart). We stayed 2 nights in Chitwan/Terai and we had a 5 days trekking tour to Poonhill (Annapurna). The fully packed program was organized by Temba and Sabine in an excellent way. Both of them accompanied us into the mountains. I would travel again and again with Tembas Nepal Trek. |

The Trekkigtour through Mustang was more exhausting than thought however also much more beautiful, more impressive and vaster than expected. One must have seen this landscape once in life. Our Guides did everything, that we felt comfortable and after a couple of days, we were like a big family and had a fantastic time and lots of fun together! |

The trip to Mount Everest Base camp and to Kalapattar was a unique and unforgettable experience. This is due to the country, the people and to the excellent organization and planning by Tembas Nepal Trek! The atmosphere was very good and I felt all the time like in a big family. Temba and Sabine fulfilled all our requests and needs. During the trekking tour our guide Mingmar and the porters Dawa and Bro took always care of us. The vacation was fantastic and definitely not my last in Nepal. And then – for sure - again with Tembas Nepal Trek! |

The Everest Base camp / Kala Phattar tour 2009 with Tembas Nepal Trek was perfect!
During the preparation of our travel, we kept always in close contact. The service and assistance in Kathmandu and during the trekking was very good. In a group size of 4 trekking participants, 1 guide and 2 porters, the trekking course could be varied individually from day to day. Thus we had no problems during the tour, especially concerning acclimatization. The grouping of the team on the part of Tembas Nepal Trek was arranged perfectly and the fun factor was very high during the entire tour.
With this trekking organizer I always would / will travel again.

Thanks to Sabine and Temba Nepal’s culture, country and people were brought so closely to us. After three weeks we flew home with many new impressions and experiences.
Our trekking tour to the impressive Langtang Region was not always easy, but it was disburdened through Temba’s and Kamikondo’s joke and continuous motivation for us.
(Thank you very much for the Pringles- provision). After a very strenuous day we enjoyed the cozy and jointly spent evenings with dance and singing. Temba and Kamikondo, we were a fantastic team!
During our tours through Kathmandu and Patan, Sabine provided us with the best culturally and culinary supply. Sabine’s indefatigable engagement made our stay in Nepal very comfortable. We would like to thank once again our friends Sabine and Temba for an unforgettable, exciting and also adventurous (bus trip) vacation in Nepal.

In 2001 I visited with my daughter Nepal for first time.
We trekked in Langtang area and we enjoyed the mountains, landscapes and friendly and nice people – it was love and fascination. And I knew I have to come back again.
Last year in summer I met Temba in Munich and ask him to organize Annapurna trekking tour for me. He prepared it in such a way that this holiday was one of my best.
The route was very good planned – the daily program, acclimatization and also super selected and nice lodges – everything optimal.
I went with the best guide – Mingmar –a young boy with a lot of experience who helped in any situation, knew answer to all my questions about mountains, people, culture and economy and I was very grateful to Budha – my porter who carried my backpack.
The highlight of the tour was of course the Thorong-La-pass crossing.
It was big challenge for me and hard work but one of the best experiences in my life.
But what I mostly enjoyed was the felling I´m part of Temba´s family.
Now I´m looking forward going to Tibet in summer with Temba`s company if the situation changes. Temba and Mingmar – Thanks a lot again it was unforgettable.
